Do you have your Theme Song?

One of my favorite things to do is watching American TV show. I can’t remember exactly when I started to watch it but I think it was started with the cable’s coming out. I guess my very first TV show was ‘Friends’. Actually Friends is still my favorite show. I still watch some episode of it and it’s so amazing that it still cracks me up even though this show came out more 10 years ago!
Even though ‘Friends’ is very popular, my real favorite show is not that known well at least in Korea. May be that’s the reason why I love this show more! ‘Ally Mcbeal’ was big in States before American TV got big in Korea. It’s basically about the life of lawyers and about how they work through with their cases.

Ally Mcbeal has very its own uniqueness! First, every character in this show is exclusively distinctive! The main character Ally is full of fantasy and imagination. Every time she felt something or started imagining something, it literally came out in the show. Usually it’s just between Ally and the viewers, so the other character can’t get her thoughts. Viewers can agree with her and put their sympathy on her imaginations because her feeling is totally understandable and her imagination is something that everyone might think of for one time. Therefore this is the way how ally and the viewer build their relationship together. It’s kind of a thing that two friends share secrete together. John is another strange character. Actually he is a weirdo. Basically he stammers badly, moreover he says very random word like ‘Poughkeepsie' when he gets nervous. Besides, he normally sits on toilet to think over, works out with toilet door and has special remote to flush toilet and stuff.

Second, the music of this show is excellent. Not only the part of choosing good music but also the part of using them is superb. Since there is a bar with a good singer and good songs near by their office, normally the characters hang out in that place and sing sometimes. So this means there are always good songs in the show. However there are song particular songs that are used in very special way. Because of Ally’s abstractness, she went to therapist and she told her to pick her own theme song to cheer herself up or something. So she picked ‘Tell him’ as her theme song and for some reason John picked his too and it’s ‘You are the first, the last my everything’ from Berry White. It's so funny that it seems like sometime they share their theme song eventhough theme song can be only played in that character's head!
For the last, Toilet is a very special spot in this show. Even though there are normally two different places each for men and women, the office where they work has only one restroom which is ‘Unisex’. This unisex restroom is the place where they communicate with each other and share secretes together which can’t be secretes.
I think the actors are fantastic. They brought life to their each character, so it is almost impossible to not fall in love with every character. To be honest the reason why I like this show the most is probably Robert Downey Jr. HE IS MY ULTIMATE FAVORITE ACTOR IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!!!!!

one page in my book.

Couple of days ago, I accidently got a chance to watch life in Bangladesh on some TV show. That totally reminds me of my experience in Bangladesh. I visited Bangladesh with my friends like a year ago for a month. During one month we had experienced so many things that we’d never experienced before in our life. Those were not only funny and exciting but also weird and annoying.
First, Transportation system is never on time. My friends and I were flying from Australia to Bangladesh and for exchanging our flight we had to wait for a little bit in India. But as soon as we arrived in India, we found out that our flight got delayed. It was so frustrating for us because we were already so tired of our long flight trip. Besides, the condition of Calcutta airport was seriously not good enough to stay for couple of hours. It was almost impossible to think that airport as an international airport especially when you just had been in Bangkok airport. Anyway, what we got surprised by after the airport was the reaction of Bangles (Bangladesh people). Since the airline gave them food as a token of apology for being delayed, they were totally ok with waiting more than 6hours in the airport and happy for the food. I still can’t understand that. This kind of thing happened one more time to us. We were heading to India and choose to take a train rather than flight. We didn’t know why but our train was delayed somehow and no one knew when the next would come. Therefore we were waiting for our next train blankly. Since it was 11’o clock of something, it was really cold so we couldn’t help sticking in our van. It was 12 of us in one van and we could take our train after 6 hours.
Second, the immigration would never end. Usually most of the airport might have scan machines in immigrations to make progress. But India and Bangladesh don’t have any of them so they basically type everything in computer. It doesn’t sound bad till now, but the problem was that they typed so slow!! It seemed like they don’t know how they have to put their fingers on the keyboard for typing fast. He just checked every single alphabet every time after he typed one with his index finger. It’s more surprising that they had been working there for a while but didn’t make progress on their work. I definitely do not generalize everything with one case. It always had been like this every time when I got to the immigration not only in airport but also in train station. It took 2hours to pass trough in train station and 4 hours in the airport. What made airport worse was the waiting line. Oh, actually it’s more right to say there was no waiting line. Bangladesh people don’t take about keeping lines. For them not keeping line is kind of silly thing to do so they prefer just going for doing how they want. So we were waiting for our time, keeping our line and thinking they are silly. But I think they thought us silly because we really were! Without cutting line and slipping right into immigration booth, it’s obviously impossible to make it through. Besides, not only cutting line make you silly but waiting before immigration booth too. The one who were in the closest spot, had to literally throw a pack of our passport to the immigration booth so that the guy could do ours next.

To the last, normally Bangladesh doesn’t have traffic lane so they drive whatever they want. Moreover rickshaws are everywhere and they just randomly cut in. Therefore keeping honking is not a big deal! So of course streets are insanely noisy that I had to almost scream to talking to my friend. If you need a long trip ride, don’t choose bus and take train or something else. Bus will drive you crazy because the bus would keep honking. Once we took a bus for 8 hour drive and then, the bus driver was honking literally every ten seconds for 8 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Your might get hurt. haha
There are bunch of stuff more to talk about but these are my first shocking things in Bangladesh. I was all up set by those things and I found it so annoying, however now I think it is all just some funny memory that a lot of people have never experienced. I still love to go Bangladesh and India and I bet my second shot will be better. :)

Time waits for no one.

Since i like movie and music, what i really love is original sound tracks of movie. I believe those music include all different kinds of emotions that i got through that movie. With listening them i could picture some specific sences in my head or could bring some thought. Origianl sound track is especially good because a lot of them don’t have lyrics. Therefore it’s good to listening them when we need to concentrate on something. I have so many Original movie sound tracks in my Mp3 player so that i can listen them when i have to study or have to read my book.
So i was sitting in Cafe one day placed near by my house, reading Othello and listening OST from one of the movie that i like. ‘A Girl Leapt Through Time.’ And all of a sudden i decided to do my blong about this because it’s my blog title.

For writing blog I had been thinking through about this movie but I still do not know why i like this movie so much. I don’t like the style of the way that they drew the characters, and I don’t think the story is quite memorable. Compared with how much i like this movie, the reasons are quite paltry. Obeviously i like the music of this movie, however. Even though this movie isn’t that papular, i have seen a lot of time that this OST were used in coulple of TV programs. I can not really describe how good it is exactly, however basically they have good melody lines that some of them are cheerful and some of them are peaceful.
My favorite thing of this movie is definately ‘the sky’. This movie shows bunch of sences of sky but it’s not just a normal sky, it’s more like typical great summer sky. Those skies are magically blue, wide spreaded and have huge white could. Even though the story goes in hot summer, it does not seem so hot because of this magnificant sky. Those sences of sky always blow my mind! Sometimes the sky is very calm, still and slowly moving so that it could seem like it includes something very mysterious in it.

In addition to, i like the way that the movie describes how to go through the time. I like the idea that she has to jump up through the air for doing 'time leap'.  Using the verb ‘leap’ made this movie more facinating than it normally could be. It’s not like just walking through some wall or something, it implies more activeness and initiative! So she literally run into and jump into that amazing sky. diving into the sky.

I like the association with the calmness and cheerfulness of high school students in this movie. And the sophistication in something it seemed careless is another thing that I liked. This summer, I might be going to watch this movie over and over again. I’m not sure when I will stop watching it and when i will get sick of watching it, but I guess that’s what great movie is good to :D

love the way you lie

Have you ever read 'Wild Sargasso Sea'? it's quite interesting book especially when Jane Eyre is on theater! If you read Jane Eyre, you probably know 'Bertha' who is Mr. Rochester's wife and is described as a mad girl. well.. Bertha didn't take that big part of in Jane Eyre but have you ever been curious about why she went crazy? Wild Sargasso Sea is a story about Bertha who was named Antoinette actaully. Jean Rhy who is the author of this book give Bertha a voice that she can explain her madness and her story.
As a female reader, it wasn’t that pleasant to read ‘Wild Sargasoo Sea’. I couldn’t read it through well when I saw Rochester’s annoying behavior to Antoinette. It seemed like he was sucking her up and acted like he loves her even though he wasn’t. And in some certain kind of way, that makes her look like she was ruined by him. Furthermore there are some passage that shows her powerless and no desire to be happy. So it’s easy for the reader, especially female reader, to think of this book as a story of a woman who couldn’t resist her fate to being mad. However, as I reread this book I could find her actions to pursue her own happiness. She wasn’t that hopeless and she didn’t lose herself. She tried to be happy even though she said she decided not to.
Even though we could find couple of passages that implies her miserable fate, I could figure something different out from this story which is her signs to be happy. And those signs were kind of invisible and passive at the very beginning. When their horse died we can see that Antoinette ran away and did not speak of it for she thought if she told no one it might not be true. And this kind of passage is showed again when she was about to marry Rochester. She said “It was like that morning when I found the dead horse. Say nothing and it may not be true.” If she was ready and willing to accept her fate, wouldn’t be alright for her not to run away and to say something? So saying nothing was her own passive way to resist things that were going on in her life. She wanted to just close her eyes from what she was seeing, to ignore them and to live her life like whole new again.
But anyway she got married. And her action for being happy is getting wilder and more obvious. As she said earlier in this book “I was grateful and liked him. There are more ways than one of being happy, better perhaps to be peaceful and contented and protected”, Antoinette was happy when she was with her mother and Mr. Mason. Curiously for some reasons Rochester seems very similar with Mason. Just like how her mother’s marriage with Mason brought happiness in her life, maybe she thought she could be happy by maintain her own marriage with Rochester. Through that at least she could be peaceful and contented. Therefore this kind of idea of Antoinette reveals in her attitude toward Rochester. She only wanted to do what he liked and felt pleasant whenever he gave compliments to her. If you understand this attitude of her as just some crazy obsession of man’s love from really man-dependent woman, you got it wrong. ‘It was a song about a white cockroach. That’s me. That’s what they call all of us who were here before their own people in Africa sold them to the slave traders. And I’ve heard English women call us white niggers So between you I often wonder who I am and where is my country and where do I belong and why was I ever born at all.’ Antoinette doesn’t know how she is. She wasn’t sure about herself. Therefore through being loved by Rochester she wanted to identify herself as a loving wife. Nothing can be more frustrated than not knowing who we are. For her Rochester was where she belongs to and her identity not because of he is a man but because of he was everything she got. Going to Christophine is another way of her to keeping her marriage. Antoinette felt that her marriage was going to be apart so she wanted to do something and to figure something out. She was desperate for advice to fix her marriage. Since she knew that Rochester married her for money, she might have some stress about that even though it doesn’t have been appealed. And she maybe wanted to show the people around that her marriage wasn’t like that and show them how happy she is.
Drinking rum is her very big step for express her pursuit of happiness. It might bring her crazy but I guess her madness itself reveals her struggle to the world for being happy. Since she knew the world out there is scary, she needed something that might help her out. And for her, it was drinking rum. To get to be brave a lot of people still do that. Whether it turns out that rum made her crazy or not, still it was her method to talk with Rochester, to finally confess everything of her and to step up to the world. What she was fighting with and struggling with was the world that does not allow women to express how they feel about something. To shut up and accept what their situation was the virtue of women. That’s why Rochester said “You have never learned to hide it." When Rochester talked about justice Antoinette said she believed that word once but not anymore. What justice means in this book is an equal right to express feeling. People simply generalized her mother as a crazy mother rather understood her sadness of losing her son.
I believe Antoinette tried to fix her life. As long as I figured her actions to survive, I started to questioning to myself that what feminine novel has to be. Does it all have to be finished with successful ending of female character? What kind of successful ending then? Being rich or taking certain social position that could get some credit for? I think this novel reveals feminism by turning that kind of idea inside out. By showing how miserable one woman could be who was chasing for happiness which is not limited only by men, Jean Rhys wanted to say women has exactly the same right to pursue happiness and exactly same right to be frustrated and express their sadness. I was listening Rihanna’s song one day called ‘love the way you lie’ and couldn’t stop thinking of Antoinette.
‘Just gonna stand there and watch me burn, but that’s alright because I like the way it hurts. Just gonna stand there hear me cry, but that’s alright because I love the way you lie.’

Give little bit of Rhythms in Your Life!

I kind of had a hard time to figure out what I want to write about for my blog this week. Since I’ve been studying hard for my mid-term test, there was not really special thing going on my week. Therefore I figured out that I could write about the music that I’ve been listening.
I literally do love music so much. Music is something that has always been my interest and that, I believe, has huge influence on my character process. That’s why I’m keeping listening music and playing music with piano and bass-guitar.

Especially I’m a huge fan of pop-song which means western music in Korea. I’d lived in Germany for 4years until 8 years old (in Korean age) and I met my first song in Germany that I found interesting for the first time. Surely I might have a lot of chance to listen songs before but as long as I remember this song was the first song that I tried to find out the meaning of that song and put that song on music-player by myself. And the name of that song is “Without you” from Mariah Carey. What's funny is that “Without you” was the song that I wanted to look for the lyrics of, but the lyrics that I actually found and thought as lyrics of that song was “All I want for Christmas is you”. Since I didn’t know any word of English, I read it in germen translated version and i was confused,i guess. The reason why I can remember this is that I’d thought “Without you” as a Christmas song for a while. :)
So I learned American pop song earlier than Korean’s and just because Mariah Carey was my first favorite singer I couldn’t help being her side whatever she did something stupid. Therefore surely I prefer Mariah than Whitney. haha :]
Even though she is my favorite, I’m listening more various kind of music from differeent musicians. For writing this blog, I just checked out my Mp3 player and I found out I have very little music of women artists compared with men artists. (Hm… interesting.. well…. Instinct, I gotta say! )Anyway, I am attending couple of literature class lately, like novel and comedy and stuff. So that makes me need to listen some calm or peaceful music so that I can concentrate on my reading. So there are several of good musicians that I recommend you to listen during work time.

If you are a foke person, I will recommend you to listen Jack Johnson, James Morrison, or Damien Rice. Their music are more relaxed than Jason Mraz or any one. It seems like they all have pretty similar style of songs but each of them has their own unique voice color. Personally I think James Morrison has the most fascinating voice color in the whole world! This guy can make bunch of money only with his voice! (well.. he do, actually)
If you need something to energize you up for a little bit, however, Keane and Coldplay are good too. I really love those two bends. To be honest, I love bend music! Bend music always make me high or too cheerful in certain kind of way. But the music that Keane and Coldplay are playing are not that “rock and roll” kind. What I really like about them is there is an excellent melody line in their song which goes well with piano. I like the way they use piano every properly.
I think it’s really important to know good musician who we can introduce to our child. Have you ever think about that or do you already have some certain musician in your mind? I believe music can keep our hear beating and keep us being sensitive. Especially music is needed in this kind of world that pushes us to be rational and could drive us crazy. Let’s just be a Human with Sensibility and Love with listening MUSIC! Keep Our Heart Warm!

Shoes for Tomorrow

You might have seen a lot of people who wear ‘Toms’ today. Toms shoes is pretty big in Korea since couple of years ago. But the thing is Toms shoes is not just a trend issue, obviously it means more than that.
Many children in developing countries grow up in bare foot. In bare foot, they are going to school and walking all the way through for water and everything. Since developing countries have path with not that good condition, the rough road makes the kid’s foot get hurt. It is easy for their foot to being cut and getting sores. For not having shoes, a lot of kids have been catching disease like podoconiosis. But what’s surprising is that it can be prevented only by just a pair of shoes. So what Toms keep emphasizing is ‘One for One’. ‘One for One’ means with every pair people purchase, Toms will give a pair of new shoes to the children in need.
The 5th of April was a day for ‘One day without shoes’. It’s kind of movement that try to bring people’s attention and make the situation with the kids around the world known. People go out in bare foot so that they can understand what the situation would be for the kids who don’t have shoes. And it’s not just ended with understanding, but they talk to the people around about the truth around the world and how we can make a difference. ‘One day without shoes’ is not just a event that is happening in Korean but also is happening in more than 1600 places in the world.
I have participated in that event, One day without shoes, before when I was in Australia. I was in some kind of youth group program that people come from all around the world to participate. Even though it’s not official date for that event i walked with my friends the rough way in the bush nearby our home.
Later I found out that event would be held in Korean too, this time. Therefore I ask some of my friends to let’s be a part of it and we met in Nam mountain at 7:30pm. We climbed all the way through to N tower in bare foot! It felt weird at the first time but we all got used to it.
I felt good to be a part of the good event like this! My attention could be just a small step and it’s almost invisible thing but I believe to be aware is something!

the way to mix oil and water together!

The fact that men and women are different can’t be more sucked. A lot of people say that half of the world is men. And it’s true! But do you know what it could mean by that? That means we have to struggle with half of the people in the world! We are living in the world that we can’t obviously avoid each other and can’t help facing each other. The figure that we keep going wrong is just so much annoying as trying to mix up water and oil in a pot.
If you look up the book ‘Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus’, you could see how they are different. Just like what the title says, what this book is keeping saying is the importance of admitting the difference between each other.
Women and men are different like people from different other country. People from different country have different thought, different idea and different language. So if we want to communicate with the people from other county, we have to study their culture and language. It’s pretty interesting idea to think about that woman and men are using their own language.
Men say directly what they want to say and usually that means nothing more than that. However, Women are used to putting more implications on what they are saying. And to figure out what that mysterious meaning is, is what men are supposed to do. If a guy says he is okay, that really means he is okay with it. But when a girl says she is okay, sometimes that doesn’t mean she is okay. So this fact makes woman start to bugging man to know what’s going on to him, even though he is alright. Or sometimes woman are frustrated by man for not bugging herself. Then, she thinks he doesn’t care about me enough while he thinks she is alright.
What’s interesting is that woman’s implications do something more than we could probably imagine sometimes. I find the book ‘He is just not that into you’ pretty interesting as a reader but annoying as a women. The writer says that women think there is something more in what men said, just like women themselves. Therefore women start to interpret what they said which actually means nothing more than literally it is.
It seems like women’s language do some kind of role like ‘self-defense mechanism’. For not being hurt by a guy, women interpret man’s action in the way she wants to understand, so that she can be alright with that situation. So she thinks it was not an “actual” no which was a real no. It’s amazing to see how genius women are to make excuses for not being bumped. Again, as a woman I hate this book! I really hate the fact that the author is a guy. I felt like being naked or something during reading. Got so annoyed by that!! Ahhhh!!
So what I wanted to say is that since women and men are different like oil and water, it’s really important to admit the fact that they can’t be mixed! You can’t just keep stirring oil and water until they get mixed. Because they won’t be! It’ water and oil. Just admit it! Do you know what makes oil and water mixed? Yolk! A yolk of egg will do :) when you just regard them different you might get some sense to put yolk in that pot. If we can’t stop facing each other as women and man, why don’t we try ‘the yolk of understanding’? Let’s study each other and learn each other’s language! Let’s just give it a try :]

Let them SING!!

The television show ‘I’m a Singer’ became a hot potato lately in Korea. The ‘I’m a Singer’ is a new TV show which is broadcast by MBC. It’s basically a survival format show. 7 singers can have their own stage and will sing a song then the audience will vote. The one who get less will be eliminated.
It might look like just a normal competition TV show. But the reason why people are so crazy about this show is “The 7 singers”. The 7 singer are the most famous singers in Korea who are not well known as good dancer or good performer but literally as good singer. Even I haven’t seen them all together in one stage. Of course their stages were great and people got excited about the next episode.
The thing happened last Sunday. It came out the one who got the least votes was Mr. Kim who is the oldest, the most professional singer in Korea and have his 20th anniversary this year for his career as singer. The rest of 6 singers got panic themselves and they figured that maybe Mr. Kim hilarious performance didn’t work well for the audience so there must be some kind of misunderstanding. People didn’t estimate him not only by his song but with his performance. Anyhow they decided to give another chance. And that brought a huge problem!
The viewer stated to say that it’s breaking the rule. Somehow everything went crazy and the director of that show announced his resign yesterday and today Mr. Kim announced his resign of the show.
I don’t know what people are arguing with, I don’t know why they are arguing with this and I don’t know what they want by doing this. Everything is going crazy! I know giving him another chance is breaking rules, but as the director already said before the purpose of this program is not to eliminate someone but to deliver some chances to the viewer that they can listen good music by spooking singers.
Sometimes I think people got just really used to the whole competitive world out there. We all are trying so hard in our own life and think the world is going wilder and wilder and say “I hate this world! The winner takes it all!” And then, we turn our TV on to avoid our situation and to make ourselves laugh. However only what we can find is yelling at someone in TV to get out!
All the circumstance that we are around with drives us competitive and makes us like a fighter. Life is not a survival TV show! Don’t push someone to resign! You don’t have to step someone over and make him crash out. Just enjoy what you are doing in your life! Let the singers enjoy their stage!!!

Seized my day!!

The 14th of March was my birthday. Since in Korea it is "White Day" which is kind of stupid day to celebrate, people seemed that they were enjoying that day more than i was. To be honest I'm not that really birthday type of girl. For me, birthday means nothing more than getting one year older. But i guess it went different this year.
I went to Coffee Bean that morning and ordered my favorite coffee which is ice vanilla latte. And then I listened my favorite song of my favorite band all day long. I do love Keane! My favorite of them is 'Somewhere only we know'. Listening Keane all day long made my day more delightful!!
After school I met my friends to have dinner together. We gathered in Seohyun station and went to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. I don't know but for some reason i love Vietnamese dish so much. I should move to Vietnam. hahaha!!
The best thing on that day happened after we went to coffee shop to grap some coffee. We got coffee, frozen yogurt ice cream which is my favorite as well and cheese cake for celebrating my birthday. I had really great time with my best friends and just realized how grateful I can be only with some small ordinary things. coffee, songs, food, friends and ice cream.
I shared my cake with my friends and for bringing the rest home I ask one of the staffs to pack it up. that took so long! just right before our complaining, one staff brought us a box of cheese cake and said "sorry for being late. One of our staff tipped the cake over during packing so I got a whole new cheese cake for you. I hope your understanding." Actually I got really excited by that. A whole new cheese cake??!! What a chance!! So I brought a new tasting good cheese cake home and shared with my family.
What a great way to call it a day :)
